Ivo van Hilvoorde
Ivo van Hilvoorde is professor at Windesheim University of applied science (Zwolle) and assistant professor at the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam).
From a strong interdisciplinary background (human movement sciences, philosophy, sociology, pedagogy) Van Hilvoorde’s work primarily focusses on sport and physical education, with special interest in new technologies. He published in leading journals, wrote scientific and public-oriented books and gave key notes for leading networks (such as the IPC, Play the Game).
Related to the topic of his key note on eSports, he co-authored Embodiment and fundamental motor skills in eSports (2016) and “Dear IOC”: Considerations for the Governance, Valuation, and Evaluation of Trends and Developments in eSports (2022). Van Hilvoorde also co-edited Sport and Play in a Digital World (Routledge, 2017) and Digital Technology in Physical Education: Global Perspectives (Routledge, 2018). More recently, he co-edited Homo Movens. Philosophy and science of sport and exercise (Koster & van Hilvoorde, 2024).
